In a week of change at WPI, the management made the signing of the season, capturing the service of Dejan Uro (AKA Andreas Iniesta).
The signing of the new star midfielder coincided with the contract termination of the former team captain, Al “El Bulli”.
Dejan quite easily filled the shoes of the former captain, and reports in the media suggest he is a far greater asset to the team than the former captain ever was. His intricate passing and control of the midfield was part of a master-class performance on debut, which he also capped off with a brilliant volley goal that left onlookers breathless.
On an unusual Sunday morning kick-off time of 12:30, WPI looked slicker than ever, totally dominating proceedings. WPI controlled the pace of the game, and the new look opposition put together by Henry had no answer to WPI’s attacking flair. In the end, WPI ran out easy winners 12-7.
On the sideline watching the game, was future opponent ‘Doy’, who’s Asian all-star team would have been absolutely frightened by the new found composure, fitness, and ball control of WPI. Doy painted a worry figure, as he knows if WPI can keep their new signing happy, his team will have no chance against WPI in the future.
Doy’s team-mate, ‘Crazy Shot’ (as labelled by WPI’s former captain), couldn’t bear to watch, as his two left feet performance previously against WPI had left him embarrassed.
A special mention has to go out to the greatly improved performance, of Stevie D. Stevie showed great determination, and a footballing brain well beyond his years. His fitness throughout the game on Saturday had many people wondering, had this man really just stepped off the plane?
So with the future looking brighter than ever for WPI, and the role of captaincy spread amongst the players, the looks to be a harmony and new found energy for the game. The question that arises from all this; can anyone stop the new look WPI?

Captains Corner: Press Release Statement on the future of Steven “Gerrard” Daniel

Stevie "D" at his peak
First of all I would like to say to Steven thank you for helping us during the pre-match warm up games, but at the moment Steven’s injury’s is a worry as he is unable to get the crucial match fitness he needs. Also, his sudden abandonment of the team to go on a vacation to the Americana’s does not help his selection for the strong 6 man squad that we need.
I’m unable to get in contact with Steven at the moment, but our fans and sponsors (Never Fail) need answers on Steven's future. I’m hoping that this communication will reach him some how. I understand that this will come to a shock to Steven, as his heart and roots are with the club without a doubt, but I think under the circumstances he will want what’s best for the team at the moment.
Some players have asked me about Steven’s future involvement on the pitch, and I said I won't pick him for any more competitive games. I’ve changed the team formation. We need players for the future. He was a fantastic player and I personally think that his injury has cut his career short.

Career ending injury? Perhaps.
You can see the team we put on last Saturday’s game, we had a great combination of older experienced players with the injection of new, young and energetic players like Mario “Babz” Bartolli and Steve Urosevski that can play on the right and left wings and also do what they are told. I think and I hope, that when Steven is back he is OK to play one friendly game at Strathfield to say 'goodbye' and 'thank you very much' to the fans and sponsors.
I’m not saying this is the end of his career with WPI 86, there are multiple jobs he can take off the pitch as we need experienced management but for him to play again in the WPI 86 colours he has to show that he really wants it and train hard for it . Steven has got legendary status, without a doubt, He was a fantastic player and, if he has played his last game, he'll certainly be missed both on and off the pitch. But you never know with Steven. I'm sure that, if he hears this news, it'll drive him on and he'll try to prove people wrong.

WPI does it Again!!
They say winning isn’t everything, but somebody forgot to tell that to the boys above. Losing is definitely not in their vocabulary, and the hunger that this group of boys have to win at all costs is unrivalled.
Today's game took place at Strathfield RSL's, now famous, astro-turf pitch. In one of the most stunning come backs seen in recent history, WPI came back from 7-3 down to clinch the toughly contestted game 12-13 in front of a huge crowd.
WPI was reshuffled from their previous outing, with Steve D (formerly acting coach) choosing his marriage and honeymoon over team duties (more on the repercussion of his actions later).
In came new signing Pramin (aka Babz, aka Mario Balotelli), and Damo coming in for Rod H.
It all went to plan early on for WPI, with Steve (aka Stefche) finishing a neat build up to put the team up 1-0. From there the opposition took control of the game and raced to a 7-3 lead. WPI had no answer to the fast moving opposition, as their lack of fitness was highly recognizable. New recruit Pramin struggled to get a grip and looked out of place, cheaply giving the ball away on numerous occasions. However, he and the rest of the team lifted, and in what could only be described as 'stunning', WPI found the samba rhythm which had been missing from their play and tore the opposition apart.
Damo gelled well with his new team-mates with an almost telepathic understanding of their movements. Babz raised his game, along with his voice, and drove into tackles, controlled the ball and almost scored and absolute cracker of a volley. Stefche put in a man of the match performance, scoring almost half the teams goals. At times, he toyed with the opposition, and humiliated the keeper by rounding and nutmegging him.
The comeback started with Captain Al rallying the troops. His vision from the back, and the directing of the game allowed WPI to take the game by the scruff of the neck and turn things around. The Khairo brothers were not at their 'defence tormenting' best, but both banged in a goal, with Mat smashing in a volley on the turn from a tight angle.
WPI turned the 7-3 deficit to an 8-7 lead, before being pegged back by the opposition to go into the break at 8-8. After the break, WPI never looked like losing control of the game despite the close score line and streaked ahead 12-9 before the finishing the game 13-12 in front.
After the game, Babz enjoyed not one, but two nice cold (and well deserved) beers with his new team mates, discussing his future in the squad, and the sponsoring of WPI in which he agreed to purchase the clubs new jerseys.

Not content with the beers, Babz shouted everyone to a nice juicy steak (further cementing his future in the squad) at Outback Steakhouse, where the wild celebrations continued.
So, with Babz displaying his worth, and Damo looking the part, is there a place for Chinaya (Steve D) in the squad? More on that in the 'Captains Corner', the new segment by captain Al coming soon. Stay tuned.
